MASERATI 5000GT a new book by Maurice Khawam. A presentation at the Petersen Automotive Museum |
The presentation of this new book by Maurice Khawam took place at the prestigious Petersen Automotive
Museum in Los Angeles on the 20th May 2000. By all accounts it went very well.
The event was completely sold out and a Maserati 5000GT by Touring was on display for
the attendees.
The book is written by Maurice Anthony Khawan with photography by David Gooley.
Here is a brief synopsis of the book.
The story starts with the
450S sports racer and talks about the link between these two cars which was
the fabulous V8 engine.
In one chapter I present the entire 5000GT production
along with chassis numbers, colour combinations and first owners of these
exclusive cars. As there has been a lot of confusion about this issue I was
glad to get the co-operation of the factory to clarify this information.
A dedicated chapter is written on the design and development of this model
with many technical details provided for the mechanically minded reader. As
an engineer myself I could not escape this indulgence!
Additionally I present a design critique prepared by Mr. Tom Tjaarda (the
designer of the Pantera and other famous Italian cars) of the eight different
body styles made for the 5000GT by the famous carrozzeria of the Italian
peninsula.
Finally the book discusses the V8 models that were produced by Maserati as a
result of the unexpected positive response received to the 5000GT and
highlights the importance of this model on the entire Maserati commercial
production.
The book contains many historic photographs that have never been published
before. It also has professionally taken photographs of recently restored
models.
Last but not least the book has a foreword written by Adolfo Orsi Jr. and a
word from the prolific Giulio Alfieri.
